M. Steven DeCarlo serves as executive chairman of AmWINS Group, Inc. Previously, he served as chief executive officer of AmWINS for 17 years, leading the business through the merger of several specialty wholesalers. He has served on the AmWINS Board of Directors since he joined AmWINS in December 2000. Steve began his career with Crum & Forster and later joined The London Agency (today part of Chubb) as its chief financial officer. DeCarlo was a founding partner of Royal Specialty Underwriting (RSUI), serving as executive vice president and chief financial officer, later becoming senior vice president of what was then RSUI’s parent company, Royal & SunAlliance USA. In 2009, Steve was the winner of Ernst & Young LLC's prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year® award in the Carolinas for the financial services category. He is active in the insurance community and was named the National Insurance Industry Council’s Spirit of Life honoree, raising more than $2.7 million for the City of Hope to support research for life-threatening diseases. A graduate of East Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, he serves as a member of the ETSU Board of Trustees, is a member of the ETSU Foundation, and is also affiliated with the Distinguished President’s Trust.

Scott Purviance

Scott M. Purviance became the chief executive officer of AmWINS on May 1, 2018. One of the company’s first employees, Scott joined AmWINS in July 2001 as chief financial officer and took on the additional role of chief operating officer in April 2012. He has served on AmWINS’ Board of Directors since April 2015. Scott began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1992 serving for 7 years in the insurance services assurance practice. After leaving PwC in 1999, Scott joined the Business Insurance Division of Royal & SunAlliance USA, Inc., as vice president of finance. Scott earned a BS in Accounting from Wake Forest University.

W. H. "Skip" Cooper, CPCU

W. H. “Skip” Cooper, CPCU, served as president of AmWINS for 11 years and has transitioned into the role of vice chairman. With 35 years in the industry, Skip has extensive knowledge of large property account structures and placement management, as well as product research and development. His expertise in customer, client and market relationships has helped drive AmWINS to its position as a leading specialty brokerage and underwriting organization. Prior to joining AmWINS, Skip had served as executive vice president of CRC Insurance Services, a company he joined in 1985 as its 12th employee. During his time at CRC, Skip formed the Property Department, along with AmRisc Underwriting, and held many leadership positions within the firm. Prior to 1985, he worked in various industry positions including underwriting at Fireman’s Fund and internships at Lloyds of London. Skip graduated from the University of Alabama with a BS in Finance.

Rupert Atkin has served as a director of AmWINS since 2016. Rupert is currently non-executive chairman of Talbot Underwriting Ltd. and previously served as its chief executive officer from 2007 until 2016. He served as chairman of the Lloyd’s Market Association from 2012 to 2015, became a member of the Council of Lloyd’s in 2006 and was deputy chairman of Lloyd’s from February 2014 through January 2016.

Joseph E. (Jeff) Consolino

Director

Jeff Consolino has served as a director of AmWINS since December 2006. From February 2013 to June 2020, Jeff was with American Financial Group, Inc. (AFG), where he served as a Director, executive vice president and chief financial officer. From February 2013 until its acquisition by the Company in November 2016, he served as Chairman of the Board of AFG’s majority-owned subsidiary, National Interstate Corporation. In December 2015 to June 2020, Mr. Consolino was Chairman of the Board of Neon Capital Limited, an AFG subsidiary which operates Syndicate 2468 at Lloyd’s of London. From March 2006 to February 2013, Jeff was a founding member of management with Validus Holdings, Ltd., a reinsurer based in Bermuda, as President and CFO. Mr. Consolino also served as Chief Executive Officer, President and founding Director of PαCRe Ltd., a Bermuda-based underwriter of top-layer property catastrophe (re)insurance during his time as an executive officer of Validus through December 2015, when PαCRe Ltd. ceased operations and returned all capital to its shareholders. Until joining Validus Holdings, he served as a managing director in the investment banking division of Merrill Lynch specializing in insurance company advisory and financing transactions. Jeff is currently a director of Beat Capital Ltd. and has served on the board of directors for AFG, Validus and PαCRe Ltd. He graduated from Duke University with a BS in electrical engineering in 1988 and received an MBA from Cornell University in 1992.

Matt Ebbel has served as a director of AmWINS since 2012. Matt is currently the Managing Partner at Skyknight Capital. Matt was at New Mountain Capital from 2003 to 2016 and still serves as a Senior Advisor. He previously worked in the Corporate Finance and Strategy group at McKinsey & Co. Matt is a director of Connextions, Inc. and Maritime Holdings L.L.C. (d/b/a Intermarine), and was formerly a director of Tygris Commercial Finance Group, Inc. He received his AB in Economics magna cum laude from Harvard College in 2001. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts.

Marc Stad has served as a director of AmWINS since 2015. Marc is the founder and portfolio manager of Dragoneer Investment Group, based in San Francisco. Prior to founding Dragoneer, Marc was a portfolio manager at the Investment Group of Santa Barbara, where he was the partner in charge of the firm’s Hong Kong office. He also worked as an investment professional at TPG Capital in the company’s North American Buyouts Group and prior to TPG, was with McKinsey & Company. Marc received his AB in Government from Harvard University and his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Stuart Szabo has served as a director of AmWINS since 2015. Stuart is a senior director, Private Equity at PSP Investments. Prior to joining PSP, Stuart was a vice president at Apollo Real Estate Advisors and a corporate finance analyst at Deutsche Bank in London. He received a BA in Economics cum laude from Harvard University.

Valerie G. Brown has served as a director of AmWINS since August 2020. She is also a board member of Advisor Group, Jackson Hole Center for the Arts, Financial Services Institute and the Securities Industry, Financial Markets Association. Brown brings a wealth of knowledge in helping businesses position themselves for lasting success. From April 2016 to April 2019, she served as executive chairman for Advisor Group. During her tenure there, she strengthened management and assets grew from $160 billion to $270 billion. She also served as CEO of Cetera Financial Group from 2010 to 2014, which grew organically and through successful acquisitions, quadrupling earnings and doubling assets. Prior to Cetera, Brown was chief executive officer of ING Advisors Network, where was president for five years. Throughout her career, Brown has received numerous industry awards, including being named one of the InvestmentNews’ 2019 Icons and Innovator honorees. She is actively involved in charitable arts organizations and is a member of C200, an invitation-only membership organization of women business leaders from around the world. Brown has a chemical engineering degree from Oregon State University and MBA from Stanford University – Graduate School of Business.
