M. Steven DeCarlo  |  Chief Executive Officer
 
M. Steven DeCarlo has served as Chief Executive Officer of AmWINS since December 2000. Prior to joining AmWINS, Steve held various management positions with Royal & SunAlliance USA, Inc. from 1988 to 2000, including Senior Vice President for Business Insurance (1998-2000) and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Royal Specialty Underwriting Inc., Royal & SunAlliance’s excess and surplus division (1988-1998). He has served on the AmWINS board of directors since he joined AmWINS in December 2000.  In 2009, Steve was the winner of Ernst & Young LLC's prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year® award in the Carolinas for the financial services category.

 
W. H. “Skip” Cooper, CPCU  |  President, AmWINS Group, Inc. 
 
“Skip” Cooper has served as President of AmWINS Group, Inc. since May 2007. Prior to joining AmWINS, Skip had served as Executive Vice President of CRC Insurance Services, a company he joined in 1985 as its 12th employee. During his time at CRC, Skip formed the Property Department, along with AmRisc Underwriting, and held many leadership positions within the firm. Prior to 1985, he worked in various industry positions including underwriting at Fireman’s Fund and internships at Lloyds of London.​

 
Scott M. Purviance  |  Chief Operating Officer / Chief Financial Officer
 
Scott M. Purviance has been the Chief Financial Officer, Vice President and Secretary of AmWINS since July 2001. Previously, Scott was Vice President of Finance for the Business Insurance Division of Royal & SunAlliance USA, Inc. (1999-2001) and prior to that was in the insurance services assurance practice with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP (1992-1999).​ ​

 
James C. Drinkwater  |  President, Brokerage Division
 
James C. Drinkwater has served as President of our Brokerage division since April 2008. He formerly served as Chief Operating Officer of the division. Prior to joining AmWINS in 2005, James held executive positions with both Stewart Smith Group and Willis Group. He began his career in the London marketplace.

 
Samuel H. Fleet  |  President, Group Benefits Division
 
Samuel H. Fleet has served as President of our Group Benefits division since April 2004. Sam Fleet founded National Employee Benefit Companies, Inc. (NEBCO) and related companies and served as the principal executive officer of these companies until they were acquired by us in July 2000. Sam has continued to serve as President of NEBCO since that time.​

Frank Murphy  |  President, International Division
 
Frank Murphy has served as the President of our International Division since January 2012. He also serves as the CEO of THB Group, a role he has held since April 2009. Frank is responsible for international group strategy and development, and is also currently a Deputy Chairman of the London & International Insurance Brokers' Association. Frank has worked in the insurance industry for over 25 years. Prior to joining THB in 1999 he held a Director's role at Arthur J Gallagher (UK) Limited. He was appointed to the THB Group Board in July 2004 after becoming CEO of THB's Lloyd's broker in 2003. 

 
Michael L. Lapeyrouse  |  Leader, Underwriting Division
 
Michael L. Lapeyrouse is the leader of our Underwriting Division and also serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of The American Equity Underwriters, Inc.  After joining Cooper/T. Smith in 1982, Mike was instrumental in founding AEU which was owned by Cooper/T. Smith until its acquisition by AmWINS Group, Inc. in June 2007. Mike was appointed to the board of Harleysville Mutual Insurance Company in 2002. Prior to AEU, Mike practiced law, specializing in Maritime Litigation.​​

 
Kristin L. Downey  |  Director of Human Resources
 
Kristin L. Downey has served as Director of Human Resources of AmWINS since December 2002. Prior to joining AmWINS, Kristin was employed by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where she spent five years in the Assurance and Business Advisory Services (ABAS) practice and two years as the Recruiting Manager for the Carolinas ABAS and Tax practice.​ ​​

 


Todd Atwood  |  Chief Information Officer
 
Todd Atwood joined AmWINS in 2013 and leads our global information technology team. Prior to AmWINS, Todd served as a Senior Vice President and Chief Architect Executive at Bank of America. He is a graduate of Georgia State University and is an active member of the community, having volunteered his time with a number of nonprofit organizations that foster IT growth and development, including IT-oLogy and NPower (now Apparo). His work and IT product creation have resulted in individual and shared rights to numerous patents worldwide.

 


 
Tom Lott  |  Director of Marketing, Practices and Client Relationships
 
Tom Lott leads our Client Relations, Practice Groups and Sales/Marketing Team and has been with AmWINS since 2008. He also works with clients to ensure they are connected with the best expertise and capabilities at AmWINS to help grow and retain their business relationships. Tom works with retail clients of all size and structure. Prior to AmWINS, Tom was the national leader of P&C practices for a national retail broker.​

Ben Sloop  |  Executive Vice President
 
​Ben Sloop leads our new business initiatives across the group and will focus on organic growth by adding products, improving efficiency of processes and leveraging technology resources. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Harvard, he began his career in management consulting at Bain & Company, then joined Parthenon Capital, a private equity fund, where he worked on the AmWINS capital raise in 2005. In 2006, he joined AmWINS in an M&A role. He left AmWINS in 2007 to attend Stanford Business School, and worked for Bills.com, a Silicon Valley start-up, from 2009-11.

 
Donna L. Hargrove  |  General Counsel
 
Donna L. Hargrove has served as General Counsel of AmWINS since April 2008. Prior to joining AmWINS, Donna served as lead corporate in-house counsel for BB&T Insurance Services, Inc. Earlier in her career, she served in private practice with Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC concentrating in mergers & acquisitions and general corporate matters.

William Nichols  |  Director of Business Development
 
​William Nichols has served as Director of Business Development for AmWINS since 2007.  In this role, William is primarily responsible for identifying and executing AmWINS’ merger and acquisition activities.  Prior to joining AmWINS, William worked for Dun & Bradstreet for over four years with leadership roles in D&B’s Financial Planning & Analysis group as well as corporate development for D&B’s Small Business division.  Prior to D&B, William worked for Banc of America Securities covering companies in the Technology Services and Financial Institutions industries.
